Until CA sorts out the unit upgrading system and upkeep costs, I’ve made a mod that will reduce the upkeep of all available units. I did not use a set value or percentage reduction, instead staggering the costs by the unit’s current upkeep.

This keeps cheap units roughly similar to what they are now, while drastically reducing the upkeep on some higher tier units. I choose this method mainly due to the fact that the game will force you into those higher tier units as you research technologies, and this can be devastating to an unprepared economy. I tried to alleviate that issue without destroying the early game income challenges, which are often the most interesting part of a campaign.

The changes are as follows:

Original upkeep range = New

120-155 = 115
156-180 = 130
181-235 = 145
236-335 = 160
336-385= 175
386-535 = 190
536-1199 = 225
Elephants + Onagers (1000+) = 255

Mercenaries are 40-60 more upkeep per unit then the normal unit across the board, using roughly the same system as above.

An example of this would be nordic skirmishers: the upkeep of this unit in the mod for a faction is 115 (before upkeep modifiers), as mercenaries their upkeep would be 155.

Works with all current unit DLC, but will not affect custom units.
