PLAN Type 052C Guided Missile Destroyer – REMASTER
China’s Aegis, Forged at Sea
Note:
This mod includes sensors and weapon systems designed to showcase the combat capabilities of 2020-era surface combatants. Applying them jointly with the vanilla game content from the Cold War era may diminish the balance of gameplay. Use with caution.

The Type 052C guided missile destroyer is China’s first indigenously developed modern air-defense destroyer equipped with phased array radar and a vertical launching system (VLS). With the launch of its lead ship, PLANS Lanzhou (170), in 2005, the PLAN surface fleet finally gained an effective and powerful aerial air-defense capability for far-seas fleet operations.
In the late 1980s, the PLAN began developing a new class of air-defense destroyers based on the Type 052 destroyer, featuring large phased array radar and long-range surface-to-air missiles. The design requirements stipulated that the ship’s phased array radar must possess an air search range of at least 300 kilometers and be capable of deploying the naval variant of the HQ-9 long-range air-defense missile to provide aerial air defense for future blue-water surface task forces. The development focused on:
· the large phased array radar system
· fully automated digital integrated combat system
· shipborne vertical launch system
Due to China’s prioritization of economic and social development in the 1990s, funding for defense research was limited, delaying development. As a stopgap, the PLAN launched the Type 052B destroyer with the Russian ‘Shtil’ missile system. By 2004, the phased array radar was finalized, forming the basis of the PLAN’s third-generation guided missile destroyer: the Type 052C.
With a full-load displacement of approximately 7,000 tons, the Type 052C’s hull is based on the Type 052 destroyer and uses a CODOG propulsion system, allowing 32 knots max speed and 4,000 nautical mile endurance at 18 knots. It’s a fully modernized platform capable of air defense, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare.
