Description:
Announcement – I am abandoning this mod

I’m abandoning this mod. What does this mean?

  • I hope that somebody will take over the mantle in one of two ways:
    1. Ask to be made a contributor/author of this page and take over the duties of updating and maintaining it. I’d remove myself afterward and you’d be the owner of this page.
    2. "Steal" all the assets of the current mod to make a new mod. Go nuts. They were always yours to take, and you never needed my permission, but this is me explicitly encouraging you to please go do this. Do it!
  • This workshop page will remain up in its current state, indefinitely, until a worthy heir reveals itself
  • I will probably not make any more updates to it.
  • If somebody makes a good replacement version of this mod on the workshop I will heavily publicize it and link to it here

(Remember: The point of this mod is simplicity. Animal armors should mimic human armors’ stats and effectiveness, and there should be as few craftables as possible. It’s better to have one "Animal Plate Armor" than a zillion different armors specific to each species.)

Dino Update

Added new dinosauria armor sprites! HUGE thank you to these guys:

Huge Update – All Vanilla Animals (and many modded ones) Can Now Wear All Armor

However, it is invisible armor for most of them.

If you’d like the armor to be not invisible, send me artwork for it and I’ll put it in. Go to the mod folder, replace all your animal’s armor png files with the ones you make.

Once you’ve confirmed they work, send them over to me and I’ll put them in.

FAQ

Q: My animal won’t equip its armor.
A: Check the following:

  • The armor must be in a valid stockpile. "Valid" means that you have set the stockpile to accept the armor.
  • The animal’s outfit settings must include that armor. Important: Just because its outfit is called "Anything" doesn’t mean that the armor is enabled. You must open the outfit’s settings and make sure the armor is actually enabled.
  • The animal must be able to reach the armor. Are there any locked/forbidden doors blocking its path? Is it in the animal’s allowed zone?
  • Does the mod support your animal? All vanilla animals should be able to wear it, although not all animals will actually visually be wearing visible armor. The same goes for the most popular modded animals.

How to Make Your Animal Wear the Armor As Quickly As Possible

  1. Create a 1×1 stockpile, critical priority, configured to hold the armor, and wait for a pawn to move the armor into that stockpile.
  2. Restrict the animal to a 1×1 zone that contains that stockpile and nothing else.

Once the animal is in that zone, it will have very little options for what it can do (like eating or mating) and so it should prioritize wearing the armor almost immediately. If it doesn’t put the armor on at that point, something is wrong with the animal’s outfit settings, or the animal is not currently supported by the mod.
Q: Will you be adding modded animals?
A:Yes! Although it might be awhile. Check the discussion page for more details (Click here)

Q: How would a dog wear pants?
A: Like this[i.imgur.com]

Purpose of Mod
  • Add armor of each tech tier for all vanilla animals (plate/flak/spacer helmet and body armor)
  • Make the armor roughly equal to human armor in terms of cost and stats
  • Reduce the number of craftables by making each piece one-size-fits-all (i.e. your dog and thrumbo can wear the same item)
