Poorer Pops Drink Tea and Coffee has been updated to 1.12! Thanks much to everyone for your patience. While the mod’s original purpose and namesake has now been addressed in the base game, there’s still plenty more room for improvement! This mod will be diversifying into flavour content now. I’m not yet sure if I should rename the mod or if the name shall remain the same as a legacy thing, let me know what you think!

What’s new:
Three new unique coffee companies for underrepresented regions! Along with historical executives for each company. Learn more about these companies in the showcase slides!

The stimulants category has been rebalanced. For some reason, the developers gave sugar a higher weight and equal maximum market share as a stimulant relative to tea and coffee. This can cause silly outcomes such as pops almost entirely satisfying their need for stimulants with massive amounts of sugar. To avoid such situations, I’ve reduced sugar’s maximum market share as a stimulant to 20%. I think this better represents sugar as a fine addition to tea and coffee, but not by any means an outright replacement.

I can see that the developers intended to buff overall sugar consumption, which is why I’ve added sugar to the Basic Food category to compensate. It has a very small maximum market share, and represents homemade baked goods.

What’s planned:
– Removal of woefully historically inaccurate vanilla obsessions (complete)
– Special prosperity bonus for Pinzon & Cia.
– Another company to represent the development of Darjeeling tea
– Standalone mod release for the companies
– Representation of Yerba Mate production/consumption in South America
– Potential implementation of any clever suggestions
(I am struggling to stay on top of my coursework in college and may be overestimating how much time I have to complete these additions)

This mod adds obsessions to a handful of cultures, based on historical cultural trends of the early 19th century, to add some variety in the amount of tea or coffee that nations across the world consume.

Coffee: Caribeño, Swedish, Oromo, Somali
Tea: Hakka, Han, Irish, Japanese, Min, Russian, Yue

Since this mod increases demand for tea and coffee, this strangely makes it *less* likely for dynamic obsessions with these goods to pop up. This is because obsession chance is multiplied by how many times the supply outnumbers demand for the goods. I’ve tweaked the obsession chance for tea and coffee to compensate.

NOTES:
Due to the changes to demand and obsessions, some countries will start with higher demand than supply, local prices will be high for these countries until the AI reacts by importing more or producing more. 
Examples: Tea prices start at +75% for Russia until they begin importing more from China, or by investing in tea plantations in the Krasnodar region, as was done historically. For Great Britain, winning the opium wars and establishing a treaty port in China will be important to lower the tea prices, as well as investing in tea plantations in India.

The Morgenröte compatch is no longer necessary for compatibility.
