USS MIDWAY 1990

Regarding this vessel: 3448 parts and 1584 non physical components. The prototype of the ship is the 1945 version of Midway Island made by a workshop expert. While retaining the hull and island foundation parts, the hangar deck was renovated and the island was modernized to a rough 1990 version, with some details on the side of the hull omitted (not fully verified).

Ship History: The USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) aircraft carrier was put into service eight days after the end of World War II. The USS Midway was the world’s largest warship before 1955 and the first American aircraft carrier to be too large to pass through the Panama Canal. She served for 47 years, during which she participated in the Vietnam War and served as the Persian Gulf flagship in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. She retired in 1992 and is now a museum ship at the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum in San Diego, California
On June 28, 1955, the ship sailed to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, where the Midway underwent extensive modernization programs (SCB-110, similar to the SCB-125 of the Essex class aircraft carrier). The Midway was modified with a closed hurricane bow, aft deck edge lift, inclined flight deck, and steam catapult, and finally resumed service on September 30, 1957. On February 11, 1966, it entered the San Francisco Bay Naval Shipyard for a large-scale modernization renovation (SCB-101.66), which proved to be expensive and controversial. The flight deck area increased from 11000 to 16000 square meters, and the angle of the landing area on the flight deck increased to 13.5 degrees. The elevator has been expanded and its load capacity has almost doubled. The Midway was also equipped with new steam catapults, blocking devices, and central air conditioning units. The cost overrun raised the price of the plan from $88 million to $202 million, thus ruling out similar modernization projects carried out by Franklin D. Roosevelt. After the USS Midway was finally put back into service on January 31, 1970, it was discovered that modifications had deteriorated the ship’s seaworthiness and ability to conduct aerial combat on rough seas. Therefore, further modifications were needed to correct this issue.
