Description:

The second Sunday in August heralds the annual railway gala day along the Suburban line of the Westford route. With this being the 10th anniversary all kinds of diesel railcars and consists will be available for the public to ride on every 10 minutes between 10:00am and 06:00pm. There is even a special charter to the Haverford depot and Ashwell Colliery. Elsewhere there is a revised timetable on other routes to cater for the many visitors to the gala. Only Intercity trains run the full route from Haverford to Kempsford. local trains use a shuttle service connecting at Belsham (fast line) & Sharley (slow line) also better connection times are in place at Rickeridge for the rural services. On the gala line there are generous times between stations so travelling at around 45mph should be okay. On the slow line inward between Ashwell and New Mimms just after the 60mph limit it is advised to slow to at least 19mph in order for the signal at South Mimms junction to give the right of way.
