Silver Jubilee at Solaris
In June 1977 the UK celebrated the queen’s silver jubilee with many festive events held across the whole of Great Britain. The town of Solaris was no exception with a special timetable introduced for this special occasion. The big attraction was a handful of unique rail tours that operated in the morning taking passengers to the various goods depots along some routes that would be prohibited for normal passenger trains. A small fleet ofl Rockport trains were brought into Solaris to provide these special services. Elsewhere a very flexible timetable was introduced for the rest of the day, with a variety of DMU’s to travel on. No goods trains were allowed to run on the main passenger line between 06:00 – 18:00. Most of the shuttle trains that termimated at Solaris Central were timed to connect with forwarding services. So dive in and enjoy driving many of the different loco’s that are on offer.
