The New Kroy incident marked the outbreak of a full-scale civil war between the two major factions of the former Super Union—the Democratic Alliance and the Federal Republic.
In the early stages of the conflict, the Federal Republic relied on its close air support network, built around REAP attack aircraft, to launch multiple strikes against the Democratic Alliance’s ground forces, pushing the Alliance’s sphere of influence significantly eastward. Despite lacking air power, the Democratic Alliance still possessed a large number of high-quality infantry units, particularly the majority of the former Super Union’s Special Operations Command’s airborne troops and infiltration reconnaissance special warfare brigades—elite forces codenamed "Sabre."
Before the dissolution of the Super Union, Greyhawk helicopters accounted for the vast majority of civilian helicopters. These helicopters were primarily used for firefighting, rescue operations, and small-scale cargo transport. Alliance engineers, with their exceptional technical skills, converted all of these medium-sized helicopters into military use. By equipping them with remote-controlled rotary miniguns, rocket pods, and door-mounted miniguns, these former civilian helicopters were transformed into the Alliance’s perfect tools for deploying special operations teams on infiltration and strike missions.
By dispersing their high-quality troops along the long contact line between the Alliance and the Federation and sending them deep behind enemy lines for sabotage missions, the Alliance successfully halted the Federation’s initial offensive, leading both sides into a prolonged stalemate.
