In the late days of World War II, U.S. engineers began developing experimental heavy tanks to counter the latest German armor, which led them to developing T29, T30 and T34 series of prototypes.
T29 Heavy Tank was an American experimental heavy tank developed near the end of World War II. It was armed with a powerful 105 mm gun and featured thick armor. Though development continued after the war, the project never progressed past testing.
T30 was a related design, built on the same chassis as the T29 but armed with a much larger 155 mm gun. Its massive ammunition required two loaders, and it was tested with an automatic ramming system in the T30E1 variant.
T34 was a further evolution, mounting a 120 mm high-velocity gun derived from anti-aircraft artillery. Only two were built for trials, but its design helped influence future American heavy tanks like the M103.
