The European Gamble
EDF MISSION BRIEF – OPERATION European Gamble
Date: April 2025
Area of Operations: North Atlantic and Celtic Sea
Faction: European Defense Force (EDF)
Objective: Intercept and neutralize a U.S. Carrier Strike Group and support convoy before it reaches Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Background:
Tensions between the United States and Europe have escalated into open conflict.
Following the U.S. seizure of Greenland, a major strategic point in the North Atlantic,
a U.S. Carrier Strike Group is now en route toward Europe.
Their objective is to reach Wilhelmshaven to regroup with remaining American forces in the region.
Your mission is to intercept the carrier group and its support elements in the Celtic Sea
before they can advance into the English Channel.
Enemy Forces (Estimated):
1x Nimitz-class Aircraft Carrier
1x Ticonderoga-class Guided Missile Cruisers
7 or more Arleigh Burke-class Destroyers
2x Attack Submarines (exact location unknown)
13 or more support vessels, including oilers, cargo ships, troop transports, and replenishment ships
EDF Forces:
1x De Gaulle-class Aircraft Carrier
1x Horizon-class Destroyer
1x La Fayette-class Frigate
1x Aquitaine-class Frigate
2x F100-class Frigates (Spain)
2x Zeven Provincien-class Frigates (Netherlands)
2x Type 212A Submarine (Germany)
4x F-16 Fighters (from Belgium)
2x F-18 Fighters (from Spain)
1x E-3C Sentry AWACS (from Germany)
Mission Objectives:
Locate and shadow the U.S. Carrier Strike Group and support convoy
Intercept them before they can cross the Celtic Sea
Prioritize destruction or disablement of the carrier, cruisers, and logistics vessels
Use submarines to strike isolated escorts or support ships
Deny the U.S. force the ability to resupply and regroup
EMCON Guidelines:
Surface ships: Minimal radar use, rotate emissions among escort ships
Submarines: Remain silent and operate with passive sonar
AWACS: Stay beyond U.S. radar range and transmit via secure bursts
Fighters: Use radar only when absolutely necessary
Tactical Notes:
The convoy may trail behind or travel parallel to the main U.S. combat group
Submarines are best positioned for ambushes on support vessels
A coordinated missile strike from multiple ships can overwhelm U.S. defenses
Avoid prolonged surface combat; strike quickly and retreat if necessary
