Description:

Midway in the South Atlantic is an alternate history scenario for Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age that reimagines the Falklands War with a dramatic Argentine carrier strike on May 2, 1982. Historically, the operation was aborted due to unfavorable wind conditions, but in this mod, the weather cooperates, allowing ARA Veinticinco de Mayo to launch a full squadron of A-4Q Skyhawks against the British Task Force. Players can command either side of this high-stakes engagement where one wrong move could shift the balance of power in the South Atlantic.

As the British commander, Rear Admiral Woodward must defend HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible against a coordinated Argentine pincer movement: a carrier airstrike from the north, Exocet-equipped corvettes approaching from the east, and the cruiser General Belgrano maneuvering in from the southwest. UK assets include Type 42 destroyers, Type 21 frigates, and nuclear submarines like HMS Splendid and Conqueror. The Sea Harriers are ready, but the threat is multifaceted, and overwhelming.

On the Argentine side, Rear Admiral Allara has been given freedom to strike at the time and place of his choosing. His plan is bold: overwhelm British air defenses with low-flying Skyhawks, follow up with a surface-launched missile salvo, and let Belgrano’s guns pound any survivors. Victory lies in sinking a British carrier before they can land troops. For both factions, the stakes are total, and the outcome could rewrite history.
