Demi Cataphracts for Rome / Early Roman Cataphracts
Hello! I wasn’t much pleased by the strange arrangement of Roman catafractarii mods on the workshop. Thought I’d take a stab at something more in-line with say English Demilancers, filling in for a unit (Lancers) that they really should have anyway. Regardless, these guys are built from Hellenistic Cataphracts to an extent, and otherwise function similar to the rework mod I made. They’ve got tough armour, decent melee stats and a tough charge. Even a Roman can appreciate a Kontos and Lamellar.
That said, they have lower morale and charge bonus than the Hellenic Cataphract mod I have up, and are slightly worse in melee. They’re slightly cheaper too, but come with the double asking price of demanding you research (in theory) the Advanced Cavalry Tactics tech as well as the Cohort Organisation. I’m not actually sure if the tech requirement functions, but either way they require a tier 4 barracks, and rub shoulders with Praetorian Cavalry. This unit does not randomly feature lorica segmentata or anything like that, I tried to give them Post-Marian Helmets (didn’t actually mind the variation in the end) and barely figured out how to give them Gladiuses. Sorry Spatha users! Couldn’t find the asset without making it DLC dependent. They have the Parthian horse archers for their armour too, didn’t want to make them just a reskin for the Extraordinarii, and hence here we are.
Couldn’t figure out how to make them a general in campaign, but they work in custom battle. Also I’m retarded so enjoy a permanently red unit icon.
