Las Vegas ALMS
Las Vegas Motor Speedway – Medium Road Course (1996-2005)
Track type: Historic Track
1996 saw Las Vegas having its own speedway, located between Interstate 15, Las Vegas Boulevard, and the existing road course that came before. While the track mainly hosted NASCAR races in the 90s, it too hosted a number of sports car races since 1997, utilizing the infield parts of the track. The Medium Road Course configuration was mainly used for these endurance races, but most importantly American Le Mans Series, the track’s eventual chosen namesake, although it actually debuted in the IMSA GT Championship a year prior. Sadly the track wouldn’t return after the last ALMS race in 2000 with Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro’s Audi R8 taking the final honors on this configuration, which no longer exists after the Motor Speedway’s renovation in 2006 as parts of this configuration were gone.
