AGOT Novus Graphicus Overhaul
Welcome to AGOT Novus Graphicus Overhaul, a submod for A Game of Thrones[agotcitadel.boards.net].
Put simply, this combines the superbly detailed terrain from In heaven’s Novus Graphicus[forum.paradoxplaza.com] submod with the atmospheric and lighting changes from In heaven’s Graphics overhaul mod for vanilla.
Aside from merging the two mods together and making it work with A Game of Thrones, I have made a few small tweaks, listed below. Unless stated otherwise, changes were made to files from the Novus Graphicus submod and were limited to slight corrections to the map, which was made for an older version of the AGOT mod:
- Coastlines – Certain coastlines, especially north of the Wall, had unsightly black areas where it conflicted with the newer map shape. These have, to the best of my limited terrain-editing abilities, been corrected with the shape of all landmasses updated to the most recent version of the AGOT map.
- Rivers – Several river systems were either only partially complete or completely omitted, created unsightly flickering terrain bugs along the affected rivers when zoomed out. These have all been updated and corrected.
- Terrain – Some small islands and isolated regions, like Witch Isle in the Vale, were absent from the colormap files and appeared as blackened, barren wasteland in the game. These should all have been fixed.
- Frozen Lakes – I’ve added a white texture to the Frozen Lakes, located in the far north-eastern corner of Westeros, in the colormap_water file so they should now actually look frozen!
- Water – Speaking of water, the original vibrant light blue of the oceans, with the new lighting, seemed a bit too bright so I have darkened the colormap_water so that it better matches the look of the Graphics overhaul mod.
- Map font – Added the small caps version of Linux Libertine[www.dafont.com] as a custom map font since the vanilla font, in my opinion, didn’t look very good with the changes in this submod. Simply delete the fonts folder in the gfx folder if you wish to remove it.
No. 99% of the map changes in this mod are the work of In heaven and I certainly don’t have the skills to make such massive changes to the map myself, at least not to the same level of quality. Also, as I didn’t really make this mod, I wouldn’t feel comfortable making such massive changes to what is essentially someone else’s hard work.
So long as it doesn’t alter the terrain or the two colormap files (or the shape of the map itself) this should work with most other submods for AGOT. It will probably also work with mods that do change the map, but you’ll likely get a few unsightly graphical bugs where the coastlines or rivers don’t match up properly.
