Da Faction Unlocker


Hello and welcome! One of the most widely-requested mods for a game tends to be a Faction Unlocker, so – here we go!

This is Vandy’s Faction Unlocker, and it certainly unlocks factions, in a Vandy-ly fashion. Every faction that’s present on the world map on turn 1 – barring the Han Empire and the actual Yellow Turban Rebellion – is unlocked and fully functional.

This mod is setup in such a way to make it incredibly mod-friendly, in big part due to some of the good magic that CA did with the 3K data systems. I’ve laid down the foundation for frontend stuff, but I haven’t added anything for fear of A) spending too much time on it and B) becoming incompatible with smaller overhaul mods, which seek to change up how one of the minor factions play.

Please see the attached thread calling "Customising Factions" to get a push on how to mod the frontend and the faction start script.

Compatibility


This mod is a startpos mod, which means it’s entirely incompatible with any other mod that edits the startpos.esf file. Only one can be loaded at a time.

Aside from that, this mod should be fully compatible with everything else out there.

The Dynasty Warriors 9 Mod edits the startpos, do not use both that and this mod at once, it will crash.

Known Issues


Some characters have different models on frontend and in campaign. Some weird design choices were made for some characters, like Zhang Chao, who’s half Strategist and half Sentinel in the database. I’m having trouble altering and fixing it.

DOESN’T WORK


If this mod simply isn’t working or loading, verify the following:
– This mod is subscribed to on Steam
– This mod is enabled in the CA Mod Manager
– The load order has not been altered in the CA Mod Manager
– There is no "user.script.txt" file in "Z:/Users/[UserName]/AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly/ThreeKingdoms/scripts". If you added one before the Workshop was posted, you need to remove it – the game is reading from the mods specified in that file, and is ignoring the ones in the Mod Manager.

Planned Updates


I don’t plan on working too hard on this mod, as I have this designed as more of a framework and foundation than a fully-independent overhaul. There are other projects I’m working on, to which I’d like to give more focus. That said, if there are bugs, missing features, or the like, I will add them.

If you’re a modder, and would like to add a faction to the unlocker, reach out to me. Thanks to how most of the stuff is setup, I should be able to add faction data into the unlocker without adding any frontend dummy text or the like.
