PRL ’81: Soviet Advisors
This is Cursed.
This mod replaces the default HL2 Advisor with The Enigmatic Soviet Advisors.
!!! BUGS !!!
– As it is a very unusual advisor replacement, certain sequences might look a bit weird from time to time.
– No tongue. I really wanted to keep it intact, but It just didn’t fit properly. So, sorry about that.
–GenericName – for porting the Ourumov model to GMod
–Faithfullfaun – for porting the BO Interrogation Room props to GMod, where the chair and respirator come from.
Some lore to explain that monstrosity. Ideas are all mine, but this time I needed help from ChatGPT to combine them into a coherent description:
Of all the anomalous artifacts recovered by GRU operatives from the ruins of Black Mesa, none rivaled the significance of Sample БМО-0058/GG-3883-5 —an unstable fragment of a crystalline entity of extraterrestrial origin. Transported under maximum secrecy to Arzamas-16 Facility, the sample was prepared for analysis. The Kremlin’s top brass were present during a pivotal phase of testing, a testament to the weight Moscow placed on unlocking its potential. Initial containment was nominal, but within hours of analysis, an uncontrolled energetic reaction surged from the sample.
What followed remains one of the most heavily redacted events in postwar Soviet history. During a spectrometric scan, the crystal triggered an uncontrolled spatial-temporal reaction. The entire test chamber vanished in a blinding surge of energy—only to reappear over 100 kilometers away, buried and fused within a frozen hillside. Half of the personnel were dead. Among the survivors, certain officers exhibited inexplicable abilities—clairvoyance, psychometry, telepathic speech. Autopsies were inconclusive. Standard neurological mapping failed to identify the source of the transformations. It was theorized that prolonged exposure to the crystal had catalyzed dormant regions of the human mind, unlocking phenomena beyond the bounds of Soviet science.
Through rigorous experimentation and ideological screening, Soviet scientists determined that direct exposure to the sample’s energy could unlock latent psychic potential. However, such transformation required a crucial parameter: the subject must enter willingly. This was codified into doctrine as "Purity of Mind" —an internal clarity and acceptance necessary to survive the procedure. After the initial exposure phase, the subjects then underwent a process referred to as "Incubation", during which their bodies withered, neurological pathways rewired beyond recognition, and in days, they emerged from incubation pods no longer fully human. Their minds expanded into collective awareness, able to project thought, lift objects with will alone, and dominate lesser minds.
Their bodies, now frail and semi-vegetative, are sustained by life-support rigs. Yet their power lies not in muscle, but in pure psychic force. They became the ultimate observers, tacticians, and enforcers of Soviet strategic will – The Advisors. Feared even among the KGB and military elite, it is unknown how much influence the Advisors really have on the Soviet Government but, considering the frail state of Comrade Brezhnev, it may be greater than imagined. However, due to their rather inhuman nature, their existence is kept as secret as possible. Few outside the Government know about their existence, even fewer outside the Iron Curtain. Only the Vortigaunts seem to be aware of their true nature, a possible sign of the Advisors’ interference within the Vortessence.
