Generic Middle Eastern Insurgents
Middle Eastern insurgents are composed of a diverse mix of private militias, Ba’athists, local tribes opposed to the government, and a number of foreign jihadists. The various insurgent groups fight an asymmetric war of attrition against the government, while also fighting among themselves. Insurgencies are either shaped by sectarian tensions in the country, particularly between Shia Muslims and Sunni Muslims. Or a reform movement of Muslims who aim to return to the founding scriptures of Islam (usually through violence).
