Drake’s Trap (Vanilla)
In 1964, the Americans launched Operation Sea Orbit, a circumnavigation of the globe that took them south of Cape Horn, into the Drake Passage.The Soviets planned to launch a similar operation with two submarines in 1966, but the opportunity to surprise the Americans far from their base was too good to miss.
Ships and locations are historically accurate as much as possible.
This mission is inspired by two real events, Operation Sea Orbit in 1964, a circumnavigation of the United States Navy’s Task Force One, consisting of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and its escorts, the cruisers USS Long Beach and USS Bainbridge + 1966 Soviet submarine global circumnavigation executed by the detachment of the nuclear powered submarines that served in the Soviet Navy : K-133 November class and K-116 Echo II class.
The USS Bainbridge is replaced by a Leahy-class cruiser
