OptiLOD

A Technical demo for level of detail (LOD) FPS improvement.

This is technical optimisation demo, not final which requires user feedback across a broader range of systems.

This demonstration is too improve frame rate lows when the map is open, around station interiors and combat situations, and hopefully without catching the user attention too much from vanilla visually.

So what does this do?

  • Asteroids have reduced draw distances.
  • Ships no longer cast shadows but can still have shadows cast upon themselves. (this means you will still get shadows from environment cascading onto ships but ships will not cast a shadow onto the environment or other ships)
  • Masstraffic has shadows disabled and draw distance reduced.
  • Cockpit NPC & Station NPC have reduced draw distances.
  • Station Interiors have shadows fully enabled (casting and receiving. (they prob already did but its forced enabled now)
  • Gates have about 4x the render distance for improved navigation.
  • Signal Leaks have increased visibility range for a small QOL adjustment when in space suits.
  • Holomap station and ship geometry render visibility was cut in 1/2 to try help with map performance at respectable RTS zoom levels.

    This mod is 100% save file compatible and safe to remove/install at any point, has no conflict with practically any mod except Stations, Ships and Effects Draw Distances which is an optional dependency so this one will load last, I did not touch the ship or station render distances so you can still get the effects of that from the increased render distance mod
