Great Northern No. 400 "Hustle Muscle"
The first production EMD SD45, “Hustle Muscle” was delivered to the Great Northern in 1966. Twenty-six more SD45s followed it by 1968. In 1970, HM was renumbered 6430 during the Burlington Northern merger, though it kept its Great Northern colors until 1973. The BN even kept the Hustle Muscle lettering when they repainted it in their Cascades Green livery.
Donated to the Great Northern Railway Historical Society in 1986, and restored to its original colors in 1989, Hustle Muscle has been hustling tourist trains in Minnesota and Wisconsin ever since. A crankshaft failure took its original engine out of commission in 2017, but a replacement courtesy of the BNSF brought it back to life by April 2019.
