vanilla-friendly real-world resources
Thank you @Asuna for making Explorable Real-World Resources mod
(Rework of Resource and Arable Land Distribution based on Real-World Geological Data)
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3459869359
This mod is based on the information from Explorable Real-World Resources mod.
If you want more information on resource-related states, check out above link!
Additionally, if you know how to create high-resolution resource maps, please explain it in the comments.
I’d like to make one similar to the resource maps on the wiki and include it in the mod as an attached image, but I don’t know how to do it.
Have you ever thought,
“The vanilla’s resources are too scarce, but simple ‘n-times resources’ mod feels too contrived”?
This mod is the “PARADOX” mod made for people like that!
Scandinavia should have more iron, South Africa should have more gold,
Malay should have more rubber, and America should have “Might of Great America”
When you first use this mod, your initial reaction will probably be: “Nothing’s really changed, has it?”
That’s right — unless you’re playing a country that’s especially overflowing with resources (notably Australia or the United States), or you’ve played the same country many times, it can be hard to be certain that resource quantities have increased.
Still, for players who care about geographical authenticity, the resource adjustments are substantial enough to make you nod in agreement — and those who are curious may enjoy looking up the historical locations of resource deposits while they play.
Of course there are downsides! This mod is based on estimated deposits measured from the Victorian era through to the modern age, so history-minded players may ask, “But these resources weren’t developed in the Victorian era!”
(For example — surprisingly — oil drilling on the Arabian Peninsula only began in 1938. In other words, Arabia appearing as a barren wasteland in both Victoria 3 and Hearts of Iron IV is actually perfectly historically accurate.)
That fact may disappoint players who care deeply about historical accuracy and would raise that kind of objection.
*What’s different from <Explorable Real-World Resources> mod
1. Due to performance issues, the previously “explorable” mining resources (iron, coal, lead, and sulfur) in explorable resources mod have been reverted to vanilla.
2. Various modifiers that were added in explorable resources mod have been removed.
3. Explorable resources mod increased arable land and resource amounts by about 2x(specially, wood/fish/rubber amounts by about 3x) compared to vanilla, but these have now been scaled back to vanilla levels.
(Nevertheless, the amount of arable land has increased significantly)
4. Resources that existed in vanilla but were deleted in explorable resources mod have been restored.
Additionally, in cases where vanilla resource amounts conflicted with the mod’s values, the higher resource amount was always chosen. The available types of arable land remain the same as in vanilla.
*Compatibility Notice
This mod modifies only the ‘game(or mod) – map_data – state_regions’ folder files, which means it is not compatible with any other mod that also changes the ‘game(or mod) – map_data – state_regions’ folder files.
(e.g., More beautiful states, East Asia Flavor Pack, etc.)
That said, it remains fully compatible with all other mods.
(e.g., Morgenröte, Better Politics, ECCHI Redux, Hail Columbia, James’s Vic3 Mods, etc.)
If anyone can provide reasonable feedback in the comments on how much of a certain resource should exist in a particular state, I’ll be happy to adjust and update the mod accordingly.
