[Halo 2] District
District has been my study into researching Halo 2’s shaders, and recreating them in Unity. As a result, the entire level’s visuals are 90% game accurate to Halo 2’s own rendering, main differences being unrelated to shaders (display, gamma etc.)
The level itself also heavily utilizes Ravenscript in order to color each ‘object’ that is placed in the level – for example, the trucks, cars in the garage, and some of the larger crates and scenery objects use randomized ‘color change’ values despite sharing the same material in Halo 2 – I’ve done my best to recreate this for District, and I think the final result here, while unfortunately unable to replicate the exact result H2 gives, is quite close.
While there’s a couple of issues that still need to be ironed out (shaders aren’t 100% accurate, for example Halo 2’s ‘overlay’ shader doesn’t function in the built maps, despite appearing to work in the Unity Editor. Also, not all of the placed crates and objects etc. have physics) I’ve been sitting on this for a couple of weeks, so best I get it out of the door now. Safe to say, I’m quite proud of the results so far.
Following this, I’ve been working on the Ghost, SMG and Warthog. I’ll have more to share on those at a later date, as they’re all still early stages.
