Lambourn Valley line
Welcome to the Lambourn Valley Railway!
The Lambourn Valley Line opened in 1898, closed to passengers in 1960 and freight in 1972. Running 12 1⁄2 miles between Newbury and Lambourn in Berkshire, it forms a quintessential sleepy British branch line.
In Diesel Railcar Simulator the LVR has been available in my existing ‘Newbury Branchlines’ route for quite a while, however since the release of DRS’s Scenery Update I have completely overhauled the line, elevating it’s accuracy and making the whole thing look significantly more scenic. With numerous new custom models and using the incredible reference material at lambournvalleyrailway.info, the line is now more realistic than ever before.
The line features:
10 stations between Newbury and Lambourn
The RAF Welford branch & RAF Welford facility
A collection of local landmarks including East Garston Church and the Newbury Cable Company.
True to life station & track layouts using various sources to be as authentic as possible
Numerous new custom assets including station signs & details, bridges, buildings and more.
Improvements to built-in scenery items including roads and added wires to telegraph poles.
A varied timetable with regular services, shunting and additional AI scenery
The timetable currently features exclusively vanilla rolling stock, feel free to create your own timetables using alternate vehicles. The timetable isn’t exactly prototypically accurate as by 1960 there were very few trains using the line which would have been rather dull to play in game, so the timetable included focuses more on adding a variety of services rather than being historically accurate. Imagine it as a ‘what if the line was more popular’ scenario.
Timetable services marked with an asterisk (*) will involve coupling to other rolling stock during the service, if you get stuck while playing these services, I recommend using the ‘watch’ function to see how the service should be driven.
Feedback is appreciated!

Once I’ve upgraded the rest of my Newbury Branchlines route to the new Scenery Update standard, this version of the LVR will be integrated into the Newbury Branchlines route. The reason I’ve uploaded this version of the LVR is because the LVR is finished but large parts of the DN&SR are still work in progress. Thus, I’ve uploaded this version to give people access to this new LVR while also preserving a drivable version of the DN&SR in my existing Newbury Branchlines route. This is also why this version is labelled as a ‘demo’, it will be finalised with the full release of the Newbury Branchlines update.
