Description:

Weighty Burdens completely reworks most vanilla Curses to have unique (and more interesting) effects, and introduces over a dozen brand new Curse-like effects. These include both Blessings (positive effects, opposite Curses), and Boons (effects with both an upside an downside), which have been designed to expand on the system in the base game.

Please note, this mod will be inherently incompatible with any others that change vanilla Curses in any way.

Mod Features

All of the changes and additions detailed below have been documented on the official Absolution Wiki, which can be found here [tboiabsolution.wiki.gg].

New Floor Modifiers

Floor Modifiers are effects that are similar to Curses, and are determined randomly by the game in the same way. These include:

  • Blessings – Positive effects that provide various benefits to ease the natural challenge. These appear less frequently than all other modifiers.
  • Boons – Neutral effects that incur both advantages and disadvantages that alter the meta-game. These appear less frequently than Curses.
  • Curses – Negative effects that impose detriments to increase the natural challenge, similar to those available in the base game. These appear more frequently than all other modifiers.

For a full list of new modifiers and their effects, please see the Absolution Wiki (linked above).

Reworked Curses

All of the following Curses have been renamed to better match their new effects and potential lore. The most important changes include:

  • Curse of Darkness – In addition to its normal effects, now prevents the minimap from displaying any room beyond those adjacent to the current room.
  • Curse of the Blind – Instead of its normal effects, now prevents any icons from appearing on the minimap; this includes available pickups, clear status, and special room icons. Additionally, blocks the effects of any passive collectible that reveals the map (such as Blue Map or The Compass).
  • Curse of the Lost – Instead of its normal effects, now Isaac is required to explore all non-special rooms on the floor before being allowed to enter the Boss Room.
  • Curse of the Maze – In addition to its normal effects, leaving a room with an available collectible causes it to become ‘blind’ upon returning (red question mark).
  • Curse of the Unknown – In addition to its normal effects, now prevents Boss health bars from appearing on the HUD, and blocks the effects of Spider Mod.

For a comprehensive breakdown of these new effects, please see the Absolution Wiki (linked above).
