Description:

The 15000 Series (15000系) is an EMU operated by Tokyo Metro on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line.

Introduced in 2010 as a part of the effort to alleviate severe rush hour congestion on the Chiba section of the line. The 15000 series features wider doors to improve boarding efficiency and reduce delays caused by long stops. 13 10-car formations were manufactured in 2010, with an additional 3 formations built in 2017, totalling 160 cars. Through-running operations are carried out on the JR Chūō-Sōbu Line and Tōyō Rapid Line.

Maximum design speed is used, operational speeds are 100km/h on the Tōzai Line and Tōyō Rapid Line, 95km/h on the Chūō-Sōbu Line.
Capacity is calculated using 200% crush as the Tōzai Line frequently reaches 200% (and above) during rush hour.
