Yokohama Municipal Subway 10000 Series / 横浜市交通局10000形
The 10000 Series (10000形) is a subway vehicle operated by Yokohama Municipal Subway since 2008.
Designed based on the light metro railcar specifications, the 10000 series is the inaugural type for the Subway Green Line. The type has smaller carriages of 15.6 meters length and 2.49 meters in width, typical of light metro vehicles. It is powered by linear motors and runs on overhead wires, in contrast to Blue Line vehicles which use third rail with conventional motors. Planned as a 6 car train, 2 middle cars were initially omitted to lower production costs and it was manufactured in sets of 4 cars. In response to rising passenger numbers 10 out of the 17 sets will be extended to 6 cars by FY2024, beginning operations in 2022. Therefore, the current number of vehicles including those ordered for the near future is 88 cars. It is likely that the remaining sets will be also be lengthened in the coming years.
