Description:

This is a small mod that adds several new laws and modify existing ones in different countries, mostly Asian.

Should work with 1.12, as it doesn’t change anything fundamental, if anything – please contact me!

Originally I wanted to create just a law-tweaking mod to modify several Asian countries and make them more historically accurate, but eventually, I also created local law versions and added several building and AI behavior tweaks.

While this mod can make playing several countries easier (i.e. Japan and China without Serfdom or Russia without Traditionalism and Peasant Levies), the main purpose is making these countries more viable and dynamic when they’re played by AI. This will add a layer of complexity and can make the game more interesting overall.

I’ve tried to follow the historical records for all countries I’ve modified, and I’m very open to any suggestions and historical sources. I’m also planning to expand this mode’s scope, add new law versions (maybe for African nations, too), and maybe even create some events, but have no specific terms.

Feel free to contact me if you want to contribute and make Vic3 more historically accurate and interesting!

NEW LAW VERSIONS:

So, for now, there are three new law versions:

Nomadic Rulership: version of Serfdom for Arabian minors, Persia, Afghan, and Central Asian countries. Mongol and Buryat countries can also have it. Represents the tribal nomadic organization of these nations. Peasants are no longer tied to land and can migrate freely, but are still subjects to unpaid labor, and conscription rate is increased, as nomadic warlords often used their subjects in wars. Also, increases Landowner clout even more heavily and adds Armed Forces clout increase, too.

Highlander Levies: version of Peasant Levies for small mountain countries, currently I’ve added it for Chechnya, Circassia, and Montenegro. Increases conscription heavily, reduces morale loss, and adds army experience gains. Represents the strong military traditions of highlander tribes and make them (slightly) harder to conquer.

Janissary Corps: version of Peasant Levies for Ottomans, representing their semi-professional army. Enables conscripting artillery and cavalry, adds to unit experience gain, and reduces morale loss, but also reduces conscription rates.

Additionally, Serfdom doesn’t prevent passing Religious Schools now.

LAW TWEAKS:

China and Japan starts with Agrarianism and Tenant Farmers, and Japan has Professional Army, representing its organized Samurai armies. China also has Religious Schools, representing its Confucian education.

Lanfang, being a democratic (!) republic of Chinese volunteers, has Homesteading, National Militia, and Agrarianism, which represent it much better than Serfdom etc.

Korea also has Tenant Farmers, Religious Schools, and Agrarianism, and it’s not Isolationist now.

Vietnam and Burma has Tenant Farmers instead of Serfdom, too (but not their subjects).

Thailand (Siam) preserves Serfdom, but has Agrarianism, representing (relatively) high level of development in the Rattanakosin Kingdom (although forced labor and slavery were still practicing).

Russia starts with Agrarianism (it wasn’t SO underdeveloped to have Traditionalism), Professional Army (one of the strongest and well-organized armies in Europe, according to many sources!), Religious Schools, and Secret Police (similar to Austrians, Nicholas I was a master in organizing it). Serfdom, of course, is preserved.

Russian-American Company (Alyaska), at last, has Frontier Colonization and can colonize Athabaska.

Punjab/Sikh Empire/Khalsa Raj, being quite a developed nation, has Interventionism and Private Schools, along with vanilla laws.

Persia and Central Asian minors (Bukhara, Khiva, Kokand) have Religious Schools, too, representing their quite educated population and traditions of Islamic learning.

Along with Arabian minors (except Oman), Afghan minors, and Kazakh minors, Persia and Central Asia also starts with Nomadic Rulership version of serfdom, and Arabian countries don’t have migration control (who can control it in desert, at last?)

Ottomans has Janissary Corps, Tenant Farmers (it represents the Ottoman agrarian policies much better) and Religious Schools (again, strong traditions of Islamic education)

Circassia, Chechnya, and Montenegro have Highlander Levies

OTHER TWEAKS:

Japan now starts with a smal flotilla of 5 frigates and an iron mine + mil shipyard in Kanto. Of course, it makes playing them easier, but the main point is to ensure that AI Japan will do at least something close to their historical expansion.

Bukhara and Kokand now have belligerent opinion towards their neighbors, as they try to dominate Transoxiana.

Persia and Kabul are now more belligerent towards their neighbors, prompting them to reconquer Central Asia. And, yes, Persia again has Azerbaijani as its primary culture.

Nejd and Jabal Shammar are belligerent towards Arabian minors (excluding Oman), representing Rashids and Sauds ambitions to unify Arabia.

Ottomans are domineering towards most Arabian minors, while being protective towards Nejd and Shammar, as they historically tried to restore their dominance in Arabia.

COMPATIBILITY:

Seems to be compatible with everything that isn’t a total conversion and doesn’t change basic country tags. As added laws are only law versions, mods that add new laws (i.e., BPM) are perfectly compatible. Please report all incompatibilities.

THANK YOU!
If you enjoy the mod, don’t forget to like it.
Also, I’m always open to constructive criticism and collaboration.
