Urbanization with Consequences
This mod expands the urbanization system to better reflect the social and economic impact of growing states.
As a state becomes more urbanized, its agricultural and industrial balance begins to shift:
- For every 400 Urbanization, the state’s maximum arable land is reduced by 1, representing farmland being consumed by expanding cities and infrastructure.
- For every 1000 Urbanization, the state gains +1 maximum Construction Sector level, highlighting the growth of industrial capacity and urban infrastructure. In addition, migration attraction increases by +1 as people are drawn to the cities, while the birth rate slightly decreases by 0.1% due to denser living conditions and limited housing space.
These changes force the player to carefully consider the trade-offs of urban growth:
- The disappearance of subsistence farms leads to higher unemployment, especially among lower-class populations.
- Food shortages can become a serious issue as cities outgrow the pace of agricultural production.

Goal of the Mod
Urbanization should no longer be a pure symbol of progress — it should also bring new social tensions and economic challenges, just as it did during real-world industrialization.
