Castrum Paritas is a balance-focused submod for Europa Universalis V, built around defensive buildings, market access, climate-based production, subject controls, and targeted gameplay tuning.
Defenses become more useful. Markets care more about geography. Climate has a stronger effect on local production.

Castrum Paritas expands defensive infrastructure with stronger local fortification choices.
Ramparts can be built in flatland locations that already have a fort. They improve local defense and increase hostile attrition.
Town Walls can be built in urban locations. They provide a minimum fort level, improve garrison size, strengthen local defense, block land vision, slightly slow movement, reduce unrest, increase local trade center power, strengthen burgher estate power, and reduce crown estate power.
City Walls now provide minimum fort level 2 and mark Town Walls as obsolete, making them the higher-tier city fortification.
At game start, Town Walls are added to major town and city setup templates. Iberian and French town templates generally lose their starting castles and use Town Walls as the default urban defensive layer instead.
Market access is adjusted so sea and river connections matter more.
Ports, open seas, upstream links, roads, and language attraction all receive tuning to make market pull less dependent on land distance alone. Roads now apply explicit market-access penalties, from gravel roads through railroads.
Food values, winter food penalties, base RGO pressure, and construction-related goods demand are also adjusted.
Several isolated horde capitals now start with Market Villages so they have basic market access from game start.
Climate has a larger effect on local resource output.
Tropical, subtropical, oceanic, arid, cold arid, Mediterranean, continental, and arctic climates each receive modifiers that shape regional production.
Subtropical and Mediterranean climates explicitly keep winter set to none, because Europa Universalis V winter represents visible snow rather than a merely cool or wet season.
Climate descriptions are also rewritten to explain both the real-world climate and the in-game economic effects.
Castrum Paritas adjusts a few Portuguese start details to better match the revised urban and defensive baseline.
Lisbon, Feira, and Valenca keep castle setup. Viana do Castelo loses a redundant castle. Faro and Viseu are demoted from town setup to rural settlement setup.
Castrum Paritas adds subject interactions to control location rank upgrades.
An overlord can stop a subject from upgrading location ranks, then later allow upgrades again. This gives players more control over subject development without changing ownership.
Court isolation during the Bubonic Plague is made much more effective.
The mod also includes targeted AI, diplomacy, winter, food, market, building, and start setup balance changes, including revised fortification setup for several important town-rank locations.
Castrum Paritas requires Beyond the Cape.
This mod changes buildings, market defines, climate modifiers, subject interactions, start setup, plague behavior, AI tuning, diplomacy values, goods values, and related localization.
Mods that affect the same areas may require compatibility patches.
This version is intended for Europa Universalis V 1.2.
A new campaign is recommended if you want the updated 1337 building, town, castle, and market setup to apply cleanly.
