On 6 November the Green March is halted by Spanish Legion roadblocks and bullets at El Aaiún and Smara, dozens are killed or wounded. Morocco retaliates with a total embargo and border invasion. Moscow rapidly brokers the Algiers-Rabat Pact, uniting Morocco and Algeria into the provisional United Maghreb Front. A Soviet-armed joint fleet establishes an exclusion zone off the Spanish Sahara. With Villa Cisneros garrison down to ten days of supplies and under siege, Spain launches a relief convoy from Las Palmas to break the blockade and land reinforcements.
