Description:

This is another version of my Rosetta mod that does not include dynamic names for Kingdoms and Empires. Dynamic names for duchies, provinces and baronies still remain.

This is just a preference for people who prefer to play without dynamic names for kingdoms and empires. If you would like to play with these dynamic names, please download my original Rosetta mod here:

What is this Mod

Rosetta adds thousands of dynamic province names to much of CK3’s map. The goal of this mod is to provide historically accurate cultural names for much of the map’s baronies, counties, duchies, kingdoms and empires.

This mod is, however, more focused with quality rather than quantity. In essence, I am working with a smaller scope than with my EU4 mod, and am trying to provide more richness in certain regions rather than attempting to cover the entire map. There are a few reasons for this; CK3 has thousands of more names than EU4 and many of these names are often obscure, old and in sparsely populated areas, which means there is not a lot of information available for accurate translations. I am also trying to logically follow how other players will expand, so it is unlikely you will see Anglo-Saxon names in Russia or Hungarian names in India.

This mod is mostly going for historical accuracy, with some exceptions, so I will not be adding fantastical or ahistorical province names. However this is compatible with a mod called ‘Immersive Toponyms’, which adds ahistorical province names for more flavor. You can try both for more coverage.

CURRENT CULTURES WITH DYNAMIC NAMES

– Arabic
– Baltic
– Balto-Finnic
– Berber
– Brythonic
– Byzantine
– Central Germanic
– East Slavic
– Frankish
– Goidelic
– Iberian
– Iranian
– Latin (Lots of coverage for Roman names, most of the map)
– Magyar
– North Germanic
– South Slavic
– Turkic
– Volga-Finnic
– West Germanic
– West Slavic

NOTE: Dynamic province names work differently in CK3 than in EU4. A character must own a holding in a particular county for the dynamic names to appear, otherwise only the default names will show. I haven’t found a way around this and it looks like it’s a game feature. This is not a bug. Also, characters of different cultures within your lands will have duchies/counties re-named based on their culture, not yours. You will most likely see different counties with different dynamic names from your culture if a character from another culture owns those lands/titles. Again, this is a game feature and not something I can change on my end, that I know of.

CREDITS: Thanks to BurnBird for the Scandinavian and Norman province names from his CK2 mod Cultural County Names!

COMPATIBILITY

This mod is compatible with Community Title Project and Immersive Toponyms. It is not compatible with More Cultural Names.

What’s the difference between ROSETTA and MORE CULTURAL NAMES?

Both of our mods do the same thing, but are very different in many ways. We both started right when the game came out and you’ll just have to choose which you like better. I am not going to say choose one or the other, as both mods are very in-depth and have taken a lot of work to complete, so it’s up to you.

FUTURE UPDATES

India is a work in progress. Africa and Central Asia are quite tricky because so many counties and baronies are based off of obscure and sparsely populated areas, which makes finding translations hard. If anybody would like to assist in these areas, it would be greatly appreciated.
