In 2026, the Province of Alberta has conduct a provincial referendum for citizens wanting independence that has reached a significant majority (beyond a simple 50%), this reached to a point where the Canadian federal government are willing to negotiate with Alberta as well as other provinces to make a smooth transition into a independent country. To reasons why they call for independence is due to the Canadian government’s poor handing of the Canadian economy and failure of diplomacy with the United States.
Prime Minister Mark Carney stated, "We will keep working to ensure Alberta’s transition to an independent country will be successful and we as Canadians will thrive on our own military and economic goals".
After 2 years of negotiation, the United States government has watched Alberta in deciding whether they should negotiate with Alberta for military support after a controversial extension of President Trump’s 2nd term to handle the 2nd Civil War. Prime Minister Danielle Smith who was the 19th Premier of Alberta negotiated with President Trump in providing "boots on the ground" support in the US as well for the US to support building Alberta’s military. As both agreed in supporting each other’s militarises, troops of the Albertan Army infantry unit has been deployed in the US with American forces.
While Alberta has turned from a province to a nation, Alberta’s military power has been limited due to the Canadian government taking some resources away from Alberta’s military bases, only saving a small amount. The US is able to provide enough resources and weapons to support Albertan Soldiers while fighting in the 2nd Civil War.
