Description:
Super Loom

Overview

This mod creates a new tier of automatic loom called Super Looms which have increased input capacity (cotton and hemp versions) as well as increased output capacity (fabric). By combining the loom functionality with additional storage capacity, it improves character AI management.

Details

Added: I created a new Super Loom for both hemp and cotton with an input capacity of 100 units and an output capacity of 50 units. It has a new loom model using existing parts in Kenshi with a slightly larger footprint than the manual or automatic looms. The super loom costs additional resources, but uses the same amount of power to operate. I added a corresponding research which requires unlocking automatic looms to access.

Modifications: I updated the building lists so that all the looms are consolidated in the build menu. Instead of a cotton and hemp version of three separate looms for a total of six buildings in the build menu, there is a single listing for Loom (Cotton) and Loom (Hemp) which each have their respective looms consolidated and the specific type is selected with the arrows buttons.

I also consolidated the research for Automatic Looms and Manufacture Fabric (which unlocks manual looms) so one research does both Cotton and Hemp Auto-Looms. The cost and time of the research the the combination of the two so there’s no change in game balance it removes some of the clutter from the research menu.

Lastly, I cleaned up the loom names so that they will all be consistent: Cotton Manual Loom, Cotton Auto-Loom, and Cotton Super-Loom.

Personal Note

I had issues with multiple storage containers and looms causing the characters to behave erratically or not do what I’d expect. This is due to the way the AI is implemented and I couldn’t fix it directly with a mod. In game, I would typically use an extra worker dedicated to hauling to make sure the AI behaves appropriately – basically it requires a dedicated hauler. Which, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of upgrading to a better quality “auto” loom if you still need a dedicated worker.

Now you can have one character drop off hemp or cotton at the super loom and just leave the fabric there. Crafters will grab the fabric they need straight from the loom. This reduces pathing issues and stops characters from getting stuck in AI loops.

You can still use fabric storage if you’d like – nothing about this mod interferes with that, but you’ll run into the standard Kenshi AI issues which will probably require a dedicated hauler to keep the inventory moving cleanly.
