Description:

should be compatible for 1.0.8 and 1.0.

This is the standalone from my tweak mod.
Everything is same for warfare except, for compatibility reason, this standalone do not include age effects, and will behave not exactly same as the main mod.

This mod attempts to reintroduce the early role of the Regulars and Levy, while curving them toward historic role shift, in order to protect the EU5’s intended game design, which, paradoxically ‘killed’ by Paradox themselves 🙁

Levy will no longer take dull damage penalty against professional troops. Instead, strength size of the early professional units were adjusted to 400, to assure that regulars and mercenaries can provide proper ‘boost’ on heavily levy-cored battle environment of the early ages.

-Age 1

Everything remains ad hoc in this era, and regulars are nothing but a crown controlled levies. However, if you are Eastern powers that has access to ahead of time regulars, while they are not any better than levies, they still have CORE advantage.

1. (Vanila Mechanic) Regulars do not randomly dessert. Levies, other hand, will randomly take attrition for no reason. Many people do not realize this and how fatal this can be over time.
2. (Vanila Mechanic) Regulars can ignore the most of attrition modifiers except for unavoidable one, as long as regulars has access to sufficent supplies. Levies, meanwhile, usually can’t avoid even the avoidable attrition regardless of how well supplied they are.
3. (Vanila Mechanic) Regulars acclimate disease experience far faster than that of levies and takes significantly less casulties from disease outbreak.
4. (Vanila Mechanic) Levies are exceptionally terrible at General Assault on siege, and they should NEVER be used for siege assualt.
5. (Vanila Mechanic) Only very few countries gain ‘light troop’ type of levies, that comes with initiative bonuses. This is intended game design by core nature, for historic reason. Players are advised to aquire high initiative troops via mercenaries, and if Eastern, via regulars as well.

– Age 2
Most of countries gains first access to regulars at this era, and regulars, are not shiny by anychance. However, 5 core vanila mechanism of the regulars still matters A LOT.

While use of Regulars still remains as ad hoc in this age, you should consider

1. (Mod Mechanic) YOU GET ACCESS TO MAN AT ARMS FROM BURGHERS.
2. (Mod Mechanic) Heavy infantries takes significantly less morale damange. Amount of heavy infantry determines maximum morale tank of the your force.
3. (Mod Mechanic) For most countries, age 2 is the ONLY age that features heavy infantry levies. This is the only era that you can get heavy infantry from levies, and for that reason, Burghers have very important role of supporting your regulars. Levy man at arms are worse in terms of morale tank than that of its professional coutner parts, but they are signficant because:
4. (Mod Mechanic) While Heavy Infantries are core morale tank of the your army, they suck at dealing damage. If enemies are not dying, infailable army organization has no point after all. That being said you must torture your brain very often to maximize the ‘firepower’ – since this is still pregun era, you need crossbows.
5. (Vanila Mechanic) Unfortunately, except for few countries, vanila game grants no ‘light infantry’ as the levy unit, and even with this mod, you do not get ‘crossbowmen’ as levy except Genonese! You will need to rely on mercenaries A LOT to supply enough ‘light infantries’, but hiring mercs has its own limit, even with mod’s tweak.
6. Man-at-Arms Levy from burghers, reduces burden of recruiting so many heavy infantry as regulars, and will allow you to have a room for more crossbows, or even handgonners.
7. (Mod Mechanic) While regualr crossbows are high initiative, high damge, very low morale unit, handgonners work somewhat as heavy infantry with no morale bonus, and weaker unit strength size. They are situational….

– Age 3
Gunpowder’s advent changes everything.

1. (Mod) Pike & Shot is attempted to be recreated. Pikes serves are your major morale tank and insufficient pikes means a risk of morale collapsing too early. However, too much pike means lack of firepower, and litteral no damage.
2. (Mod) Just like actual European powers of the time, players will need to do best to maximize number of guns without losing too much moral tanking.
3. (Mod) Noble’s mounted units are still deadily, and this will be the last era where you still need to fear nobilities in enemy levies.
4. (Mod) As Levies are now all gunpowder unit except for nobility, their role has changed. Levy gunmen gains slight bonus on initiative, and serves as nonprofessional light infantry from now on.
5. (mod) Since you need SO MANY HALBADIERS levy gunners are VITAL. Without them, you will never have enough guns on tha battle.
6. (mod) professional Arquebuisers are, for obvious reason, far superior than that of levies in terms of providing firepower. So, they serves as very risky special troop.
7. (mod) Halbadiers as mercenaries are obvious choice. Mercenaries are the quick mode of supplying morale tank for your, overwhelmingly large supply of the gunmen. Make sure hire as much as Halbadiers as possible, to attach them to your levy gunners.
8. (mod) mounted, or firearm mercenaries are situational, but still can be useful, especially if you have heavy infantry still available as levy thanks to country specific bonus.

– Age 4
Everything is simmilar to that of Age 3, but

1. Levies become significantly more like light infantry, and because this, utilizing them became significantly more difficult. They are still good at inflicting damage, but they also take serious damage when hit, especially by light mounted units, or professional light infantries.
2. You may notice how deadly those artilleries become over time. Artillery was dramatically buffed in terms of chance of doing barrage, but was significantly nerfed in terms of damage itself. But you def gonna notice that, they HURT.
3. That being said, artilleries are very good at dooming low morale glass canon army, especially those relying ton levy guns.

– Age 5
Pike and Shot ended thanks to Bayonet. Even Heavy infantry is now firearm unit

1. Levies are generally useless during this age. They still does notable damage, but if they take damage, well, they will break apart very qucikly. Beware, while they suck at tanking they still kills!
2. Artillery suddenly becomes deadily and they will inflict insane casulties….
3. Because of this reason, while you do not need a cold arms infantry, your backbone of the army is still heavy infantries. Line infantries they are…
4. Light infantries still are useful as they do powerful damage, but they must be utilized with care.
5. Mounted units no longer deals massive damage since this era, but they gains significant boost on morale, and still can be game changer if utilized properly.

– Age 6
Things suddenly changes again in this era.

1. Levies, suddenly becomes morale tank. They suddenly gains massive penalties on damage, but they gains massive morale tank bonus. While they are nothing but a cannon fodders, they are GOOD fodders indeed.
2. Artillery is out of control, and they will devastate everything. Make sure that you have sufficient amount of cannon fodders.
3. Regular heavy infantry still serves as morale tank but they do significantly more damage than that of Age 5, serving as spear head.
4. Light infantries, still are useful, as now you lost access to cheap spam light infantry that were once gained from levies. That being said, for light infantry, now you are forced to recruit them as regulars unlike age 5.
