The Theater of Dionysus is a large open-air theater built at the foot of the Acropolis. Dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine, the theater has hosted performances by classical Greek playwrights such as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, and Menander. Originally just an open space for the performance of plays, a stone-built theater was built under the patronage of successive Athenian rulers, notably the Lycurgus of Athens (not the Lycurgus of Sparta), who has expanded it to accommodate up to 25,000 people, until it fell into disuse during the Roman rule.
Theater Squares receive a major Culture adjacency bonus from Plantations, and +2 Amenities if adjacent to a wonder (including Theater of Dionysus). Must be built adjacent to a Theater Square district and a Plantation. +2 Great Writer points Unlocked at the Drama and Poetry civic.
