Butcher Bird Remastered

The Butcher Bird is a mod that I have always really enjoyed. It offers balanced gameplay and a memorable character that fits perfectly the mood of Darkest Dungeon. However, given the small scale of the game’s graphics, the beautiful and detailed work done by the original artist did not translate entirely to the woodblock chibi look of vanilla heroes. And this was something I always wanted to address.

Alas, after seeing the release of The Butcher Bird Rework, which merely adjusts some numbers, I decided the original deserved better. In the spur of the moment, I got to work for a few hours and here’s the result.

I’ve reworked ALL her sprites and animations with the following changes:

• Redrawn linework to make it thicker, particularly on her face
• Adjusted girth of her arms and legs to closer adhere to vanilla proportions
• Increased hand sizes by about 25%
• Fixed stutter in dagger arm animation and added motion to skirt and sheath in combat pose. Improved walk and idle animations as well.
• Changed the guard for her rapier to be gold instead of white, which aids with redability and ads visual interest
• Added noise texture to all sprites to match the vanilla grit
• Three additional color palettes added (original only had 1)

Since this mod is a visual overhaul, it still requires the original The Butcher Bird Class Mod and all its trinket mods. Place my mod above ALL Butcher Bird related mods and patches if you want to see the new visuals.

I am a firm believer in free speech and abhor censorship, which I see as an underhanded and cowardly way to deal with opposing views. But I also think it unfair to allow haters to spam the mod’s comment section and drown out the comments of legitimate users. The compromise is to allow a Discussion section where detractors can pour all their grief. Introducing:

The Chalice of Tears
A place to unload all of your seething. I will happily harvest your tears of rage into the chalice and respond accordingly. Your grievances will stay up for posterity for all to see and take pity on you, or just be entertained. No comments will be deleted, except for anything illegal.

Keep the mod’s comment section free of rage and spam. Legitimate mod users need a place to give feedback without the clutter and drama. Rage-bait in the mod comment section will be deleted. But feel free to post it in the Chalice of Tears without fear of removal.
