Strategy Overhaul
This is a small mod I made for myself and a friend for playing multiplayer.
My starting assumption was that the current iteration of Rome 2 is pretty good, so there is no need for large total conversion mods, but there are a few annoying things that need some tweaking/tinkering with.
The problems I had with the game, and the solutions in this mod:
It didn’t matter much if you lost a battle, or even a whole army. – Recruitment slots reduced to 2 from 3 for armies and navies. Rome and Athens (WoS) only give a +1 bonus to army and navy recruitment respectively. Base replenishment rate increased a bit.
Small factions had too large armies. – Base income for all factions reduced to 1000 from 1500. Now the size of your empire has a stronger effect on the amount of troops you can field.
CAI couldn’t use Forced March and Double Time effectively. – Both stances have been removed. The bonus movement they give has been reduced to 0 (CAI won’t use it) and the UI button has been removed with a script. Credits for the script to the Radious modding team.
Unit special abilities required way too much micromanagement. – All unit special abilities (excluding formations and general abilities) have been removed.
Slums were way too punishing. – Slums now reduce food and public order both by 4 instead of 6, gave 4 growth instead of 1, and provide -10% light unit recruitment cost instead of -2%.
Some other changes:
Ambush success chances have been tweaked. Factions that gave +50% ambush success chance now only give +30%. Now harder to ambush in open terrain, easier in forest/hill etc.
Usable with all DLCs and Emperor edition.
I suggest using it in concert with Hellbent’s Trait Talents and Toadies mod for useful generals.
And I personally wouldn’t use any other mod with it, and its not tested for compatibility with anything other than TTT.
If you find any bugs or changes stated above that don’t work, or have any ideas for improvement please comment.
