Lux Renata ‘SONG OF GAUL’
The light is reborn! Lux Renata is an alternate history near-total conversion mod that seeks to bring to CK3 the rich and fascinating world of the CK2 mod classic Lux Invicta!
To summarize Invicta’s complex timeline as written by its creator Shaytana:
Renata, like its predecessor, is set in a world where The Conqueror Megas Alexandros, Alexander the Great, lives a couple years past his historical death in Babylon, seeing the birth of his son Alexander IV Argead and giving him some time to consolidate his conquests, albeit not continue them.
While Alexander still dies young and the Diadochi generals still rip apart his empire, Alexander IV’s more established position makes it politically impossible for Cassander to assassinate him. As such the Argead dynasty survives albeit out of power, and goes on to intermarry first with the Diadochi dynasties and later with various Roman emperors.
“`Due to the influence of stronger cults dedicated to Apollo Helios and Alexander in the east, the Roman Empire goes on to increasingly embrace the cult of Sol Invictus over the centuries of control over the former Greek states of the eastern Mediterranean. At the time of the Constantinian Dynasty though, there are still attempts to convert the Empire to Christianity, resulting in a permanent split with the East, where Emperor Julian the Apostate rebases the Solar faith in Constantinople. In the West the now-Christian Empire survives the crises of the 5th century by the skin of their teeth, but with Vandal control of North Africa and the grain supply, they are doomed to slow stagnation into dozens of struggling statelets led by various pretender dynasties.
As 1066 dawns Western Rome is practically gone while its pagan eastern counterpart is on its last legs. Charlemagne’s empire has fallen apart and Britannia remain divided. The Sassanids managed to check the Muslim armies in Persia, but the Middle East remains divided between Greeks, Arabs and Persians. Explore this rich and divided world, restore fallen empires or build something new on their ashes!
Developers’ Note:
Much work yet remains on the mod. We plan on moving region by region cleaning up bugs and lore, as well as adding both old and new mechanics. We also plan on adding introductory events to various regions to explain the local key figures and motivations for players new to the setting. If you want to learn more about how work on the mod is progressing, or contribute yourself to the project, come check out our Discord server! Praise the Sun!
FAQ:,
Where is Asia?
Much of Asia was not included in CK2, and Lux Invicta could not run much of it stably. For this reason we have to develop it from the ground up, which takes a long time. During the development process we have used the setup of the mod Lux Ultima as a skeleton for the region while focus has been on porting the Invicta tags. However, Ultima’s tags have not been running very stably with the rest of the content, and so has been temporarily disabled for the public release to reduce crashes. Asia will be readded in due time.
Can I play without DLCs?
We are trying to keep the mod running on a base CK3 setup but some mechanics might cause crashes without the major DLCs. We therefore recommend playing with as many DLCs as you own enabled for the most stable experience. We are continuously working to find, workaround, and eliminate crashes caused by DLC absence or presence.
How closely do you stick to the CK2 mod?
The team likes to see Lux Renata as a "Port++" of Invicta. We aim to maintain as much of the original setup as absolutely possible on CK3’s different map, and expanding further on it where we can. However after internal team discussions we agreed on making slight lore adjustments to make the world feel more alive, coherent and realistic. For example we will likely be changing the date and details surrounding the Indo-Greek invasion of China from the Shaytana lore in order to allow for more interesting bloodlines and diverse faiths in Asia. We will always try to inform the community when we make such a change.
Why does it run unstably with the odd bug and crash?
Ancient spaghetti code which we are still trying to figure out how to please the Machine Spirits of without making more spaghetti ourselves. This is where you come in, friends, Romans, players! Lend us your eyes and report any bugs you come across on the workshop page or in our Discord, to make your own and other’s experiences smoother!
The CK2 mod was an algamation of a dozen or so smaller mods when it came to mechanics. We are working on gradually integrating these back into Renata as soon as we finish polishing up the base content. An example is the Roman legions.
I might have some free time, can I help out?
We will open further team applications soon on our Discord. We are especially interested in experienced modders, but if you have specialized historical knowledge of non-European, non-Chinese history, you might also be of use as a flavor researcher to help bring this world to life!
