Description:
The Ottomans and the Holy League

This mod has two objectives: to improve the Ottoman situations to encourage their vast expansion and to create a powerful foe in the Holy League for an Ottoman player, or a a powerful foe in the Ottomans for a European/Middle East player. It features an overhaul of the original Rise of the Turks Situation, and four new situations, a disaster for the Mamluk Sultanate, the new unique Holy League international Organization, and easily 80+ new events.

Features:

Ottoman Conquest Situations: The Rise of the Turks situation has been adjusted to make an AI Ottoman Empire significantly more aggressive, capturing all of Anatolia and the Balkans by 1400-1480, depending on their circumstances. There are additionally three entirely new conquest situations that will occur throughout the 15th and 16th centuries. These conquests can be defeated through a new special peace treaty, or if a period of time elapses without a full victory.
– The new situations are: Conquest of the Balkans, Conquest of the East, and Conquest of Hungary

The Decline of the Mamluks: Starting in roughly 1490, the Mamluks will be struck with an absolutely crippling disaster, destroying their military capabilities. During this disaster, the Ottomans will be granted a special Casus Belli allowing for the complete annexation of the Mamluks in a single war. Enforcement of the Ottoman conquest can be selected in the game rules.

The Holy League: After the Ottomans third and final situation conquest, should the Ottomans hold over 800 locations, the strongest Catholic power in the HRE, Italy, or Eastern Europe will be prompted to form the Holy League. It begins as a defensive alliance against the Ottomans, but after 50 years, the Great Turkish Wars Situation will start.

The Great Turkish Wars: This will pit the Holy League and the Ottomans against each other multiple times over an 80 year period. The Ottomans can dismantle the Holy League through a special peace treaty. Meanwhile, the leader of the Holy League will have access to a series of dynamic peace treaties that "liberate" sections of Carpathia and the Balkans. Eventually, the Holy League may even reach Constantinople and capture it for themselves. This will present a serious challenge for even a powerful Ottomans player and provide a brutal series of wars to enhance the late game experience.

Ottoman AI Enhancements: The Ottomans AI is now aggressively railroaded to expand constantly, much like the Timurids are in their own event. They will now also aggressively build armories and Janissary units up to their recommended army size, causing the AI to field armies of 80,000 professionals by the 1550’s. It will make them a threat comparable to a player-led empire.

Integrated GUI: The GUI for all of the new situations has been implemented for a professional, vanilla-like feel. The GUI for the Great Turkish Wars and the Rise of the Ottomans has been made dynamic, and will change based on the "phase" of the war.

Game Rules:

Ottomans Buff:

  • Default: Enabled
  • Options: Enabled, Disabled
  • Effects: If Enabled, the Ottomans will receive a huge (and critical) buff to allow for constant conquest, which will eventually degrade into a harsh penalty toward the late game to simulate their overextension.
  • Recommendation: DO NOT enable if you are playing as the Ottomans. It will trivialize the game!!!

Turkish Consolidation:

  • Default: Disabled
  • Options: Disabled, Enabled
  • Effects: If Enabled, the most powerful Beylik during the Rise of the Turks will automatically consolidate land in Anatolia and the Balkans as they grow in power to prevent border-gore. Primarily an AI feature.
  • Recommendation: DO NOT enable if you are playing in or around Anatolia!!!

Enforced Conquests: There are four additional game rules that allow the player to 100% determine the outcome of the new Ottoman Conquest situations and the Conquest of Egypt. Do not enable enforced conquest if you are playing in the region, or you may instantly lose!!!

What This Mod Doesn’t Do:

– Adjust levy/professional balance
– Improve the war AI for large-scale armies
– Allow the AI to coordinate better in coalition warfare
– Add more flavor events to the Mamluks or the Ottomans outside of the Conquest Situations

Recommended:

I would highly recommend my No Casus Belli Wars Removed mod. Without it, the Ottoman AI may declare constant no-CB wars, and as the conquest situations have several triggers that check for "months since last war," it may freeze the AI and prevent the Ottomans from following their historical conquest routes.

Compatibility:

– No vanilla files have been altered, but the Rise of the Ottomans Situation has been completely overhauled and may not be compatible with other mods that do the same
– This mod is designed to work well with my other suite of mods and has only been tested with them enabled
– It is potentially save-game compatible, but as it encourages Ottoman conquest from the beginning, you will not see the full power of the Ottomans if this mod is added mid-playthrough. Additionally, if this mod is enabled while the Rise of the Ottomans situation is active, you will likely break the entire situation!
– This is by far my most ambitious mod, and while I’ve tested it extensively, I cannot promise it will be without bugs. Please report any you find and I will fix them as soon as I can
