Interesting Battles & Generals [1.2]
Many wars in EU5 feel like a foregone conclusion where the larger nation always wins and underdog victories are nigh impossible. Higher dice roll variance/topography impact + higher impact from general skill pips + longer battle phase create more variable battle outcomes.
– increased the battle phase length (the length of time that a dice roll is active for) so that you typically only get a few rolls per battle which makes each roll very important
– dice sides have been upped to 12 to increase the potential disparity between rolls
– topography defender advantage doubled to make battle context & positioning more important –> a well positioned army with a great general can potentially stand up to a much larger force
General skill pips are converted into one of 64 unique tiered composite traits, greatly amplifying the difference between poor, average, and exceptional commanders. This allows for generals with exceptional skill pips to actually apply exceptional impact to the balance of a war – something that is lacking in vanilla.
– Tier 1 (0-33): malus to siege ability and attrition rate
– Tier 2 (34-66): no effect (other than vanilla effects)
– Tier 3 (67-94): bonus to siege ability and attrition rate
– Tier 4 (96-100): disproportionate bonus to siege ability and attrition rate
– Tier 1 (0-33): malus to morale & assault ability
– Tier 2 (33-66): no effect (other than vanilla effects)
– Tier 3 (67-94): bonus to morale & assault ability
– Tier 4 (96-100): disproportionate bonus to morale & assault ability
– Tier 1 (0-33): -1 to dice roll
– Tier 2 (34-66): no effect
– Tier 3 (67-94): +1 to dice roll
– Tier 4 (96-100): +3 to dice roll
Your general will be assigned a trait, which encompasses all of the modifiers above, after being assigned to an army and one monthly tick passes.
