1920s Gas Station (Dresden)
A small gas station built in 1927 in the style of New Objectivity.
Located on the Bautzner Straße in Dresden, it is the oldest gas station in Germany that is still in use today. Its octagonal design with the circular roof is incredibly unique.
Not sure who the architect was, but in the 1920s and 30s, Paul Wolf, a proponent of New Objectivity, was in charge of urban planning in Dresden. Because of him and his peers, buildings like this mushroomed all over the city, similar to the proliferation of constructivist architecture in the Soviet Union in the 20s.
Initially used by Shell, this station served Minol fuel in the GDR. An old lady has been running it for Total Energies since 1998.
A few disclaimers: the thing works as intended, but as with pretty much every vehicle station in the game, you should try not to overload it to avoid unwanted funkiness.
Coding the pathing and playtesting was quite tedious so I didn’t put too much effort into ensuring that the last two parking spots function perfectly. All four spots are useable but having more than two vehicles in the station concurrently will almost inevitably lead to them blocking each other.
Yes, the road connection is quite far away from the building – that’s on purpose to ensure a relatively smooth turn for the vehicles exiting the station.
Yes, there is no asphalt foundation – that’s also on purpose. I personally prefer playing with concrete and cobblestone roads, so I want to leave the choice of road/foundation up to the player. I hate that most vanilla buildings have an asphalt foundation.
The model came out a little bit too big for my liking, but I think that’s actually a good thing because it means that busses and smaller trucks can also use this gas station without causing any issues.
