Return to Athla
This mod brings back many of the old units from Athla: Units like the Halfling Brew Brother, the Draconian Flamer, the Goblin Blight Doctor and the Tigran Sun Guard.
Only factions that actually originate from Athla have access to these units though, i.e. factions with a specific form trait, called Athlan Lineage trait. Each of the old races from Age of Wonders 3 has one Athlan Lineage trait: Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Halflings, Orcs, Goblins, Lizards and Tigrans. The Athlan Lineages also come with some restrictions though. Taking an Athlan Lineage trait means accepting the whole package, benefits and downsides included.
Overall the main features of the mod are:
- 40 new units: a unique unit for each combination of an Athlan race and one of four cultures (for example: Elven Lineage + Dark Culture enables the Blade Dancer)
- 22 new buildings and other economic changes to enhance the specialization of cities
- Dual Affinity Signature skills: These improve the customization options for heroes. For example, in addition to the Adept Signature skills that require 4 points of a single Affinity, there are new Adept Signature skills that require a combination of two Affinities, each with only 2 points.

The mod also includes several mechanical changes. The most important are:
- City Cap: The starting city cap is 1 but the cost for increasing the city cap and founding cities is reduced (for overall similar costs). This gives players more time to find good city locations without falling behind other empires.
- T4/T5 unit cost and upkeep: These units require a small amount Imperium to be recruited , it can be further increased through a Realm Trait. This should prevent that the new Athlan units get completely replaced by T4 and T5 units in the late game.
STATE OF THE MOD
Currently, the mod only adds new features for Season 1 content. This also leads to some restrictions (for example: Athlan Lineage traits currently block all mount traits from Seasons 2 and 3). In a future update, later seasons will be included and the restrictions adjusted. However, to distribute the units equally among new cultures, I might wait with the development until the 12th culture is announced (for a total of 4 more cultures than in the current version of the mod).
REQUIREMENTS:
The mod requires the DLCs from Season 1.
The DLCs from Season 2 and 3 are recommended but the mod probably still works without them.
