Description:

Have you ever wished for succession wars to occur just a tad bit more often while playing AGOT? If so, then this is the mod for you.

This is a simple mod that slightly changes the way succession wars are triggered in CK3 AGOT, and greatly increases the likliehood of them happening. A tleast in my personal experience, succession wars happened extremely infrequently to the point having a deceitful, arbitrary, brave, lustful, sadistic, treacherous, ambitious, lunatic younger brother was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. This mod changes that.

First, I have tied the succession event trigger to occur after an event named "Know Thyself: Close to the End" triggers. This event can only be triggered (as far as I am aware) if your character has the "Know Thyself" perk in the Learning tree. So, that is the first requirement you must ensure your character has in order for the succession crisis to work (I will have a full list of requirements down below).

Next, I dramatically increased both the likelihood a random usurper would be chosen and that said usurper accepting the challenge and attempting to seize the crown from their more legitimate relative. From my tests (I probably did close to 100), the usurper attempted the crown theft 80-85% of the time.

So, there is a great chance the succession crisis would occur organically without having to save scum too many times. In my experience, it only took a save scum or two if the crisis did not occur on the first go.

Requirements For The Crisis To Occur:

-Usurper:

~A usurper can be anyone closely related to the legitimate heir (brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, nephew, niece, son, daughter, great uncle, great aunt, grandfather, grandmother, etc.) so long as that person has a claim to the throne (whichever throne that may be for ALL EMPIRE TIER TITLES should have access to this crisis event) or is a guardian of a family member who has a claim.

~A usurper MUST BE 16 YEARS OR OLDER.

~If your usurper has a dragon, as you see with Saera in the images above, then the likelihood of triggering the event increases even more so. And especially so if the legitimate heir does not have one.

~An older usurper appeared to trigger more often than a younger one. Say, for example, the daughters of Jaehaerys : Alyssa and Saera. Even though Saera has the more villianous traits than her older sister, Alyssa was chosen to be the usurper at least 45-50% of the time. Now, there is a big reason why Alyssa was chosen so often (which I will get to in the next bullet point), but I suspect being older has at least a slight advantage.

~The most IMPORTANT TRAIT a USURPER can have is BRAVE! That is by far the most impactful trait for the selection system (which I kept the same) when it chooses a usurper. The traits ARBITRARY, LUSTFUL, DECEITFUL, AMBITIOUS, VENGEFUL, and GREEDY appeared to have an important role in deciding if the usurper would take up the crown or not as well, but BRAVE was the most important one.

~This is why Alyssa, who had mostly noble traits, was chosen so often to be the usurper over her more deceitful sister, Saera. In fact, if you do not give Saera the BRAVE trait, she almost NEVER gets chosen to be the usurper and it is almost always Alyssa. So, make sure your preferred usurper has most of these traits and definitely the BRAVE trait.

~The traits that ensures one of your heirs will NEVER be the usurper are as follows: JUST, HONEST, FORGIVING, COMPASSIONATE. Baelon the Brave, who had every trait Alyssa had EXCEPT he had the JUST trait, never (NOT ONCE!) was chosen as the usurper. And, when I gave Alyssa these four traits, she was also not chosen to be the usurper. Keep that in mind if you wish to prevent a character from being a usurper.

Legitimate Heir:

~There is one thing you must not have your legitimate heir do if you want the succession crisis to occur: be in the capital.

~He/She cannot be a landless courtier in your court, have a role on your council, or even have a court position (to be safe). They must be outside of your capital and completely removed from the court political space in order for the crisis to occur.

-The Dying King:

~The Succession Crisis event in this mod will only fire AFTER the "Know Thyself" event I mentioned above fires. So, your dying king/emperor character MUST have that perk for this event to fire.

~Also, your dying king character needs to die within one year of the event firing for the usurper flag to remain with the usurper. So, if needs be, keep track of what date the event fired and add a bunch of negative health modifiers to your character to ensure he dies before the 1-year mark of the event firing or else the event will not trigger.

In the future, I might look into how to get this event to fire after the king is slain in battle or dies in another tragic way; however, for right now, this is the only way for the event to fire on a consistent basis.

If you see any bugs or issues, or you have a comment, feel free to post it down below.

I hope you all enjoy! And, of course, a special thanks to the AGOT team for making such a great mod! My mod is but a simple, small dusting on a great sculpture masterpiece that is AGOT!
