Jingguang Center is located at No. 1 Hujialou, Chaoyang District, Beijing, within the Beijing Central Business District. Developed by China Everbright Group, it is a multifunctional, comprehensive service complex integrating a hotel, office towers, and apartments. It was the first supertall building in mainland China at the time of its completion. The building stands at the northwest corner of the Hujialou intersection on the East Third Ring Road and was developed as a Sino-foreign joint venture. The tower reaches a height of 208.7 meters, with 52 above-ground floors, a two-story rooftop tower, and three basement levels, totaling a gross floor area of approximately 145,000 square meters. For a long time after its completion, Jingguang Center remained a landmark of Beijing. Upon completion, it ranked first in height in mainland China and third in Asia.
The architectural design of the tower likewise draws inspiration from the fan motif. The glass curtain wall is divided into three vertical sections, inspired by the projected form of the triple-eaved roof of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven, conveying meanings of happiness and harmony. The five-story podium features marble joints horizontally inlaid with red trim, while the parapet is capped with golden-yellow detailing, echoing the red walls and yellow glazed tiles of traditional Chinese architecture. Oriented toward the southeast to greet the rising sun, the building symbolizes a bright and promising future.
Construction of Jingguang Center began in December 1985. The steel structure was topped out on July 19, 1988, and the project was fully completed in June 1990. The overall design was led by a Japanese architectural firm, with Kumagai Gumi Architectural Design Co., Ltd. responsible for architectural finishes and related design work, and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design serving as the design consultant.
The building is designed as a four-star hotel. 150 workers are needed.
