Rend (A Few Quick Matches)
Rend from A Few Quick Matches swings his way into Rivals of Aether! Using his trusty greatsword and familiar mechanics to his home game, he’s sure to make the competition hurt!
Rend is a slow heavy swordie, with extremely long startup and endlag on a lot of his moves which is to account for his primary mechanic which is present in his home game, dashcancelling!
When landing an attack, Rend can cancel the endlag of most of his moves into his airdash, which replaces the traditional airdodge is projectile immune for the first 6 frames. This opens his combo game as without it he would struggle to capitalize on most attacks.
On the ground, Rend throws the sword slightly diagonally in the air. If the opponent is hit within the first few frames of its lifetime, they will dragged along with the sword, and then hit back towards Rend, allowing for followups.
In the air, Rend throws the sword diagonally down, if it connects with the ground or a wall it will stick to it, and Rend will be flung towards the sword. This is his primary movement option in neutral.
On the ground, this move is a lunging command grab. When it connects Rend brings the opponent up and slams them back down to the ground. If done offstage, he will land before hitting the bottom blastzone, putting his opponent in a vert precarious situation.
In the air, this move is a forward moving strike with his sword, which puts him into pratfall (unless canceled out of on hit)
Upward slash with his sword, if held the move goes slightly farther. Can be used for recovery as well as a potent combo extender if cancelled out of, as if cancelled it does not go into pratfall.
Jumps up and falls, them slams himself on the ground. The falling hitbox of this move cannot be cancelled until either some time has passed or landing.
– Dstrong is changed from his home game, is now a ganondorf/cloud-esque hilt hit to blade combo. The first hitbox of this move can be dashcancelled out of, allowing you to reposition the opponent to a favorable position.
– Dashcancelling does not use up your airdash resource.
– You can also jump cancel out of any move on hit as well, however this does expend your jump.
– You can cancel tilts directly out of dash.
