IMPORTANT NOTICE(S):

This version of the mod is a Proof of Concept and only supports custom and MP battles. No campaign content is available at this stage.

This page is for the BETA and pre-release early-access branch of the Undead Nightmare experience. Once a 1.0 version is available, a MAIN branch will be launched as its own workshop page, while this one will remain as the BETA branch where updates will be prototyped and tested first, before being pushed to the MAIN branch when ready.

While I wish I could give a release date/window for the next stage in this exciting and innovative experience, I hope everyone can understand that I have gone back to university to pursue my passion in game development, and as such, most of my focus is on my course work and personal life; and what extra time I am able to dedicate to "development" mostly goes into practicing with game engines such as Unreal and Unity to prepare me for my career in the future rather than modding – but I will always do my best to find time for modding. This also explains why updates for my main New World mod have slowed. But I’m still here and will do my best to push updates when possible. 🙂

When all the realms of the Underworld are full, the dead will walk the Earth.

Hey everyone! Undead Nightmare is a fun little faction pack I put together for Halloween back in 2022, and after a few years of closed-community testing and brainstorming, is back in public hands due to popular demand. It runs on my New World mod as a base and requires it to function. Load it above the main mod in the load order and you’re good to go! The idea had been floating around my Discord for a while: Make a zombie-based campaign for New World! This is currently in the works and isn’t far from release, but for now this is a Proof of Concept battles-only build as a teaser.

What does Undead Nightmare bring ontop of the base New World mod in its current state?:

– A brand-new uniquely designed undead faction (currently the most complete aspect of the mod, and is the closest to its final 1.0 form).
– An Independent Enclaves faction meant to represent a sort of human-survivor alliance (still early and heavily WIP).
– An experimental Regiments of Renown system of appropriately themed units across different factions. (still early and heavily WIP).

What’s next?:

A story-based, immersive, and RPG-like Total War campaign experience with plenty of new mechanics where you attempt to adapt, research, build, and maintain order as you survive and fight off undead hordes. Taking inspiration from the Black Death and popular iconography associated with the period, such as the iconic emergence of new agents like plague doctors, an unknown infection has reanimated the dead, and in their wake they taint the land and drag along a plague of apocalyptic proportion with their every move. This nightmare is not for the faint of heart.

If you’re interested in getting a sneak peak of what the campaign may look like, I highly recommend TheTerminator’s video on the mod, which is featured above alongside the screenshots. Additionally, you can join my Discord and head into the "Dev Diary" channel and if you scroll far enough up you’ll find some screenshots from old campaign builds.

I hope you all enjoy this little proof of concept I put together. Whether you plan on devouring your friends as the Undead, or saving your last bastion of defense as one of the old or new New World factions, the choice here is yours!

Note: The screenshots are taken using the built-in Nightmare Mode, which for some reason, isn’t available in MP. I tried to create a pale atmosphere to replace the normal mode in MP, but for playing SP battles, I recommend you use Nightmare mode.

Extra Credits:

– GGDOG for the initial base "Ghoul" zombie models from a mod he uploaded to the workshop years ago.
– Aemond "Strong" Chin for optimizing and polishing up the base naked models by GGDOG, zombie horse textures, and providing Substance Painter templates for me to use to make variations of their skins. You may recognize some zombie models from his fantastic Attila mod "Eldirath: Banners of Fallen Realms" – we created them in tandem for our respective projects.
– Music is a mixture of remixes of tracks from Rome 1 and Medieval 2, Total War: Attila, Amazon’s MMO New World, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and the independent label Cryo Chamber.
– My New World community Discord for conducting rigorous testing and brainstorming ideas.
