Daewoo Tico
The Daewoo Tico is a small passenger car originally produced for crowded korean cities by the Daewoo brand from 1991 to 2001. The vehicle was licensed from the third-generation japanese Suzuki Alto, produced from 1988 to 1994. The Tico quickly gained popularity in former Eastern Bloc countries thanks to Daewoo’s expansion into countries such as Poland, Romania, and Uzbekistan. In Poland, Ticos were initially imported by the Warsaw Ticar company, which imported Korean cars, but in 1996, mass production began at the FSO plant in Warsaw. The vehicle was competed with Fiat Cinquecento, Seicento, and very outdated Fiat 126p. It’s advantages included its fuel efficiency and trouble-free servicing, while its significant drawback was its very poor safety standards. Between 1996 and 2001, 125,368 units were produced at the FSO plants, and in 1998 the Tico was the most frequently purchased car in Poland.
