Description:

This mod now required the Community Mod Framework

Overview:

Dramatically improves game speed/tick rate while maintaining vanilla balance and gameplay.

Features:
  1. 100%+ Faster Game Speed: On 7 speed, you should see time pass around twice as fast as vanilla, and an even greater improvement on lower speeds.
    • Accomplished through dozens of defines changes that would be too many to list here.
    • Removed hourly ticks (and goes beyond, with the base mod using 1.9 day (47 hour) ticks. But can be adjusted through submods available here.)
    • Damage Numbers During Battle Without Hourly Ticks!
    • Combat, Movement Speed, Game & AI Update Frequency, have all been adjusted so that all outcomes and game balance should be identical to vanilla. You should not notice any difference besides the faster speed.
  2. Optional Performance Optimization Settings in the Mod Menu:
    • Pop-Based Nation Removal: Deletes All Pop-Based Nations.
    • Region Removals: Europe Centric, Asia Centric, and Remove Low-Importance Regions. See the mod page screenshots for what each will look like.
      • Remove Low-Importance Regions: Deletes Minor Nations in regions with little chance of interaction, such as small Pacific island nations—full details in the settings descriptions.
      • Europe Centric: Effectively a Europe-only game, removing far away regions such as East Asia, Indonesia, & Oceania.
      • Asia Centric: Effectively an Asia-only game, removing faraway regions such as Europe & West Africa.
    • Unowned Pop Removal: Deletes pops in unowned locations. Stacks with nation removal.
    • Block Recolonization: If enabled with the Europe Centric or Asia Centric removals, prevents recolonization of the removed regions. Turning this off can create an interesting experience of the scramble to recolonize the lost old world.
    • Character Culling: Every 4 years removes the lowest-stat characters from each nation down to a configurable maximum. Cabinet ministers, generals, admirals, crown estate characters, and a few special-trait characters (i.e. architectural visionary) are protected.
  3. Speed Adjustment Settings in the Mod Menu:
    • Army Movement Speed: Allows you to adjust army movement speed.
    • Navy Movement Speed: Allows you to adjust navy movement speed.
    • Battle Length: Allows you to adjust how long battles will last (while losses/outcomes remain the same as vanilla).
  4. Minor QoL Adjustments:
    • Doubled MP Event Timeout Time

For reference, in my testing, Daily Ticks on 7-speed increased game speed by about 13%, where as the Steam page video shows, Faster Universalis without any optional optimizations enabled, increased game speed by about 100% on a late-game vanilla save. With the optional optimizations enabled, such as Pop-Based Nation Culling, and Europe-centric regions, you can see improvements of over 200%.

Planned/Upcoming:
  1. Continued Performance Optimization: I will be continuing to optimize the mod for performance as I find more opportunities.
  2. Graphics Tweak Options: I have been working on improving rendering/FPS performance as well, which will be released in a future update. But as of now, I’ve only managed a 13% increase in FPS. (If you like, you can uncomment out my WIP graphics defines, but it is not currently enabled by default.) Note that if you are CPU-bound, you may still see a FPS boost currently. And you will see an FPS boost using any of the optional performance settings in certain scenes, as there will be less to render.

Compatibility:
  • Updated for 1.1+
  • Not Achievement Compatible.
  • Fully save game compatible.
  • Should not be used with any other tick-change mod, such as Daily Ticks.
  • Load after GlorpUI or any mod which edits to top bar (I only edit the game speeds themselves, so this will not overwrite other changes).
  • I may add compatibility patches upon request.

The mod should work with any other mod that doesn’t change tick rate (i.e. Daily Ticks).

There can be a potential issue with the main mod and any mod using a day-specific trigger, but I am currently not aware of any mods that do so/have any issues.

Please report any issues or outcomes that don’t match vanilla/expected behavior if they occur.

There is one known non-gameplay related issues (does not apply to hourly or 12-hour tick submods):

  • The "Game Speed When a selected Unit enters Combat" settings will use the vanilla game speeds instead of my own, flicking back and forth between speeds. It’s thus recommended to turn this off.
