Tainted Eden Rework – Soul Infusion
The biggest issue with Tainted Eden isn’t the chaotic item rerolls; it’s the unfair health loss. In the vanilla game, bad rerolls can instantly delete multiple heart containers, putting your entire run at risk through no fault of your own
This mod introduces the Glitched Armor and Soul Heart Conversion systems to fix that flaw while keeping the character’s identity intact without trivializing it
Check out the Repentogon version, featuring improved responsiveness, better performance, and additional features
- T. Eden is limited to 3 Red Heart Containers. Any HP gained beyond that limit automatically becomes Soul Hearts
- The system is capacity based and dynamic: depending on your current Red and Soul health, HP ups may convert in either direction to maintain valid heart slots
- This prevents overflow and ensures rerolls cannot create impossible health states or override Soul Hearts
- Flesh Before Soul:
If you have Red or Rotten health, damage is taken there first - The Tax:
Red and Rotten health is spent to absorb hits, protecting your other hearts - True Health:
Only Soul Heart damage affects deal chance. Red, Black, and Bone hearts function as armor - IOU:
If rerolls remove Red Containers, excess red health is stored and automatically restored as soon as a valid Red Container exists again (Bone Hearts also count).
Unlike vanilla, rolling into 0 HP Ups does not delete your red health
Deal chance now reflects how damage was taken:
- Armor Protection:
If armor absorbs the hit, deal chance remains intact - Armor Neglect:
If all Red Containers are empty and you take Soul damage, deal chance is reduced - RNG Forgiveness (Pure Soul Builds):
If a reroll leaves you fully Soul Based, damage will not punish you. The mod recognizes your forced vulnerability - The Deal Curse:
If you willingly give up all Red Containers (Devil Deals), you do not get RNG Forgiveness. Soul damage can reduce deal chance until at least one Red Container is restored
Enforces consistent heart order for damage handling:
Soul > Black > Bone
This keeps damage behavior predictable and easy to read
Enforces strict and predictable damage behavior:
- Prevents illegitimate Soul Heart generation caused by rerolls
- Prevents illegitimate Red Heart healing caused by rerolls (does not affect containers)
In essence, every hit costs exactly what it should; like any other character
Currently Banned Items (can’t D6, reroll internally into them, spawn with them):
- Game Breakers:
TMTRAINER, Shard of Glass, Missing No. - Consumable Conflicts:
Little Baggy, Starter Deck - Visual Feedback:
A small "Poof" effect appears when the mod steps in to protect your run
The goal of Tainted Eden always was "Get hit: Adapt to a new playstyle"
In practice, in the vanilla game it often feels more like "Get hit: Lose half your health instantly"
This rework preserves her essence while removing the frustrating part of her kit
- Works with Rep/Rep+
- Should be compatible with most other mods as it only affects Tainted Eden
No known issues
