Description:
…but guns are.

This mod contains a random assortment of customized guns, chosen either via association with Black Powder Red Earth[blackpowderredearth.com], practical usage by Western militaries or fleeting whimsy – the latter of which will be constantly mocked in the localization.

The weapons in this mod are informally separated into three categories:

  • Standard Issue: Chosen by XCOM and their adjunct forces as their service weapons due to general effectiveness and parts reliability, standard issue weapons are infinite items and are always available to pick. Most prominent among these weapons are the BCM MCMR, the M1014, the M82 and the 7.62 FN Evolys.
  • Central’s Cabinet of Perturbation SSE Items: Recovered from weapon caches and sensitive site exploitations, or old XCOM weapons that have fallen out of grace, or gifts given to Central after one night of debauchery too many, or just genuinely dumb guns that troops take for the lolz, these weapons are treated as limited trophies. Troops can carry and lose them in battle, but nobody will bother to recreate them if they’re lost in the field.
  • OPFOR Weapons: Not available in the armories (and only available as Ghost Templates), various hostile human elements use these weapons during their own operations. EXALT’s old G36K, the MG4 and the Beretta B1301 are part of that list.

Every single one of them comes already customized with laser aiming modules, flashlights and holographic or red dot sights (not counting in-game upgrades – give the rifles scopes and suppressors), with a particular focus on night-fighting capabilities and the utter rejection of “cursed” weapon customization. The idea is that XCOM-alligned weapons are set up by professional warfighters to engage in 100-400m firefights in the dark, while still being able to target enemies at close range and in daylight. No funny drum mags, cheap red dots, charms or 3D-printed parts allowed.

For OPFOR and SSE weapons, they are salvaged gear from old EXALT caches and used by other hostile Resistance forces, customized for a fanatical but mildly trained rabble to fight in urban sprawls competently enough. For the enablers who set them up, the low-level users only need 30-40 seconds of unshakeable will in the first troop-in-contact call. Whatever happens to them next is not their superiors’ priority.

So far, there are about:

  • 6 assault rifles
  • 2 short-barrelled rifles
  • 4 machine guns
  • 2 sniper rifles
  • 3 shotguns
  • 3 pistols
  • 2 autopistols
  • and many more, deliberately hidden or requiring Long War of the Chosen to access

MOD REQUIREMENTS/SUGGESTIONS

  • Template Master is a HARD REQUIREMENT. This mod was built upon it.
  • Long War of the Chosen is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, borderline required. While you CAN go deep into the config files and undo some changes, off the shelf these weapons use LWOTC weapon stats. That means 3 upgrade slots for all, MGs getting five ammo per mag and unique range tables, and pistols dropping one mobility.
  • Weapon Skin Replacer, Item Hider and XSkin are also SOFT SUGGESTION mods to either reskin vanilla mag and plasma rifles into whatever gun is in this mod, or to create your own Ghost Templates, as there are no mag or plasma variants of the weapons.
  • Also, this isn’t a requirement but an advice: the guns won’t show up in an existing campaign. Start a new one to enjoy the pews. With the new REQUIREMENT of Build Item Class Requirements Begone, the Standard Issue weapons are now available in an existing campaign.

SO ABOUT THAT 0.8…

Before you all ask, yes, I will add more weapons. Definitely not right after the initial release, and definitely not ultrarare and ultracool weapons like the AN-94, SPAS-12 or G11 – the few currently existing exceptions are in OPFOR armories with less than stellar localization snarks for a reason – but more shall come. That includes a certain surprise that requires a certain expertise that I don’t certainly have for the moment.

What is that, you ask?

Well… it’s rude to ruin that surprise.
